Dear Residents,

I’ve represented the 2nd district of the City of Long Beach since 2020, and was selected unanimously by my colleagues to serve as Vice Mayor on December 20, 2022. I am a longtime Long Beach resident, community leader, and a decorated public servant who knows the value of hard work and perseverance. As a product of the Long Beach Unified School District, I worked hard and graduated from Stephens Middle School and from Poly High School, where I also served as Student Body President. I continued my education at Long Beach City College, working as a maid and waitress to pay my way through school. I went on to get both a Bachelors in Business Management and a Masters in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach.

I’ve had a diverse career in the City of Long Beach. During my decade as a public servant with the Long Beach Police Department, I was awarded over 20 commendations for bravery and exceptional service. As one of very few women in the department, I worked to ensure that women were treated equally in the department, and given the same opportunities to succeed. After an injury on the job, I took the opportunity to re-invest in Long Beach and continue to give back to the city that had given me countless opportunities.

Most recently, I was a small business owner who employed over a dozen local Long Beach residents. I started several small businesses and served on many nonprofit boards, working with youth, adults, and seniors from across the City.

I have been widely recognized for my contributions to Long Beach including being awarded Business Woman of the Year by the Long Beach Press Telegram and being appointed by Supervisor Janice Hahn as a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Small Business Administration.

In my time on the City Council, I've introduced legislation that helps small businesses do business with the City, set up Kid Zones signs in our parks, fund disposable tests for bars and restaurants, and led to the creation of the Commission on Women and Girls. I also led in the adoption of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and worked with my colleagues on our homelessness response, our vaccination rollout, and providing assistance to businesses and residents during the pandemic.

In addition to serving as Vice Mayor and Councilwoman, I currently serve as Chair of the Economic Development & Opportunity Committee, Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, and as a member of Arts, Culture, & Tourism Committee. I previously chaired the City’s Climate Action and Environmental Committee, and also represent the City of Long Beach at the Southern California Association of Governments, serving as Second Vice President and on the Community, Economic Human Development Committee, the Executive Administration Committee, and the Legislative/Communications and Memberships Committee.

Thank you!

Cindy Allen
